Here's to me! Entering the Splogo Phbere! Hiphop Hooray Ho.
I have no idea where to get this stupid shit started so I'm gonna write about things that happened... YESTERDAY. And the things that those things have made me thought.
WATCHING
I watched The Parole Officer
last night. Entertaining enough for a late Thursday solo movie watching
session. A Thursday night is normally what I like to justify to myself
as being my only "real" weekend night for me to go out. So I'm not
typically in any fit mood to sit down and watch a British
not-quite-slapstick-heist-buddy flick. I'm normally in a fit mood to go
out and drink 10 beers, a few shots of bourbon and a few shots of
Jager. And then when I get home maybe I'll manage to pluck a laugh out
of the cable fare, but I normally just plop my self into my bedroom's
flat area for resting. And rest.
I bartend. It's not the most demanding job in the world. I work two and a half nights per week. This is my sob story. I have lots of time for other things. I am going to cultivate and share those other things with me, the writer and listener, on this blog.
READING
Just picked up Spaceman Blues
by Brian Francis Slattery. This was also last night. A Thursday night
for the record books I tell you. So far, a hilarious, musical romp
through the underbelly of NYC's surroundings. Slattery's debut novel
too. Has gotten quite a bit of good press. Pynchon is a common
comparison.
It sucks living with three other guys who only party on the weekends, when I have to work all weekend. So I find myself having to listen to my music with my headphones on while my roommates sleep, while they get to blast their shit while I work during "party-time excellent time" for normal people. The price I pay to toil so little. What a price it is!
At my old house, my other roommates led slightly less-structured lives. More like mine. Made for much more frequent and louder late night Deathno parties. Now I have to have my own Deathno parties at the bar, with 200 of my much less closer friends. And I have to listen to quiet stuff to help me wind down and not want to jump through the ceiling/floorboards in one simultaneously upward and downward extending leap. Like...
LISTENING
The new
Band of Horses. Or most of it. "The General Specific" is my favorite
for now. I'll figure out how to get music up here soon... Like when I
buy a domain for myself.
xoxos to all of my lovely friends who I forced to read this. Really, I'll hug and kiss you all over the place next time I see you... If you can quote verbatim any one of the paragraphs written above.
